Pawprints is situated on the outskirts of Appledore, a quaint fishing village in North Devon just a few minutes from the A39 Atlantic Highway.
The amenities in Appledore village are just a few minutes walk away and include a well stocked village store, newsagent, tea rooms, fish and chip shops, restaurants and pubs. Exploring the winding cobbled streets will reveal a plethora of gift shops and galleries with something for everyone. There is a maritime museum which offers an insight into the history of Appledore and it's maritime past.
An evening stroll along the quay whilst enjoying a locally made clotted cream ice cream is a lovely way to end the day. Fishing boats operate from the quay and can be seen returning on the tide with their catch. It is possible to buy freshly caught seafood there too and you don't get much fresher than that! Boat trips along the river Torridge towards Bideford and in the other direction towards the Atlantic ocean can be taken most days during the summer. Day trips to Lundy Island leave the quay in Bideford on a regular basis if you feel like a longer trip although dogs are not allowed on the island.
There is a very active RNLI lifeboat station in Appledore with one of the larger vessels being anchored in the Skern. Regular training takes place from the slipway which is fascinating to watch, from a safe and respectful distance of course. Just next to the slipway and revealed at low tide are dozens of rockpools which our children loved to explore when younger. Fishing nets and buckets are provided for the little (and big!) members of your party to use. The lifeboat house and slipway are literally three minutes walk from Pawprints. We have spent many an evening sitting on the bench there watching the sun set whilst the children paddle & fish in the rock pools - bliss!
Appledore is a truly magical place, we love it as you can tell and hope you will love it too!
